The old sealed battery tube corrodes from the inside and there is no saving it. This kit retires it. You get a new external tube that takes eight AA batteries, two screw-on mounting brackets and the connector cable, so the batteries live outside the headrail where you can reach them and any leak never touches the motor again. Batteries are not included.

Fits: PowerRise 1.0 and early PowerView headrails whose original eight-cell battery tube has corroded or failed, mainly PowerRise 1.0 Duette and Applause. Where the bracket on those has failed, Hunter Douglas documents an external retrofit (12V battery pack 7520069000, mounting kit KIT8105, an extension cable and power cable 2920247000), and this kit does the same job of moving the batteries outside the headrail. It is not for PowerRise 1.0 Vignette made before May 2010, which converts to the 18V wand plus power cable 2920247000, or Silhouette and Nantucket made before May 2010, which use Hunter Douglas kit KIT9112. Is the wand actually the problem?

Will this fit my shade?

This kit is for a headrail whose original eight-cell battery tube has corroded or failed, mainly on PowerRise 1.0 Duette and Applause shades. Hunter Douglas still lists the original single-barrel tube, 2981097000, while its bracket assembly is intact. Where the bracket has failed, its documented fix is an external retrofit: the 12V battery pack 7520069000, mounting kit KIT8105, an extension cable and power cable 2920247000. This kit does the same job, moving the batteries outside the headrail.

It is not the fix for every PowerRise 1.0 shade. Hunter Douglas converts Vignette made before May 2010 to the 18V battery wand plus the power cable, and Silhouette and Nantucket made before May 2010 with its own kit, KIT9112. The PowerRise 1.0 page lists each line. If the old wand held twelve batteries, this kit is not your part.

How to fit it

The kit exists because the old sealed tube cannot be repaired. Corrosion keeps working through the spring and the end cap however well you clean it.

Remove the failed sealed tube from the headrail
Screw the two brackets where you can reach them — the point of the kit is that the batteries end up outside the rail
Clip the new tube in and run the connector cable to the motor
Load eight cells and test

From then on a battery change is a thirty-second job, and a leak cannot reach the motor.

Questions about this part

Why not just clean the old tube out?

Because it does not hold. White or green crust means alkaline cells have vented and the residue has eaten the contacts. Cleaning buys weeks at best — the corrosion keeps spreading through the spring and the end cap, and it takes the next set of batteries with it.

Will the batteries be visible afterwards?

Yes, and that is deliberate. The tube mounts outside the headrail so you can reach it. That is the trade: a visible tube instead of a sealed one you cannot service.

Do I need the power cable as well?

Not normally — the connector cable is included in the kit. The 13 inch power cable is a separate part, for when the existing motor lead is the fault.

How many batteries does the new tube take?

Eight AA, the same as the sealed tube it replaces. Use eight identical new cells.

What if it turns out to be the wrong part?
