Hunter Douglas Vignette Repair
Vignette Modern Roman shades have one quirk that matters more than anything else on this page: if yours was built before May 2010, the original battery wand is discontinued and the documented replacement is a different wand plus a power cable. Order the wand on its own and it will not reach.
That is covered in full below. First, work out what has actually failed.
We sell battery wands and power cables for the motorized version. We do not sell cords, lift strings or fabric.
Is my Vignette corded or motorized?
Motorized — a remote, an app or a button, with a battery wand, battery tube, transformer or solar panel at the headrail. PowerRise and PowerView are the motorized systems. This is the one we can help with.
Corded — a pull cord or a continuous cord loop.
If you raise it by hand with a cord, nothing we sell will fix it.
What goes wrong with a motorized Vignette?
The battery wand, most often. Leaked cells that corroded the contacts, or a blown fuse in the end cap from a battery going in backwards. Not repairable, $17.95–$24.95, two minutes to fit.
Flat or mismatched batteries. Cells are wired in series — one tired battery drags the string down. Fresh identical name-brand AAs first.
A lost pairing. Hunter Douglas says a shade with a poor power supply can lose its programming. Seat the wand, use fresh cells and re-pair it: free to fix, and it is why a shade can ignore the remote immediately after a new wand goes in.
The motor. If you hear a hum, grind or click with no movement, power is arriving and the motor is the problem. A new wand changes nothing and we do not sell motors.
Work it through on PowerView troubleshooting or is it the wand?.
Which battery wand does a Vignette take — and why might I need a cable too?
This is the important part, and it is where Vignette differs from every other line.
Count the batteries in the old wand.
- Twelve AA → the 18V wand, part 7520068000
- Eight AA → the 12V wand, part 7520069000
Hunter Douglas split this line at May 2010.
Built after May 2010: it takes the current 8-cell 12V or the 12-cell 18V wand. Count the cells and order to match. Nothing else needed.
Built before May 2010: the original was a 2-cell 18V double barrel, now discontinued. Hunter Douglas's documented replacement is the 12-cell 18V wand, part 7520068000, together with a power cable — because the new wand does not sit where the old barrel did and needs the extra length to reach the motor.
So if you have an older Vignette, you need two things:
We stock both. This is the single most common reason a Vignette repair fails on the first attempt — the wand arrives, it is the right wand, and it will not reach.

My Vignette won't go up
For a motorized Vignette, press and listen:
- Silence on fresh batteries → no power reaching the motor. Wand, batteries or cable.
- Hum, grind or click → power is arriving. The motor.
- Down but not up → raising draws far more current. Early sign of a failing wand or tired cells.
- Stops at the same point → travel limit or obstruction.
- Other shades respond, this one does not → pairing.
Full version: shade won't go up.
The fabric folds are sagging or will not stack evenly
That is the internal lift cords or the fabric itself, not power.
Vignette's flat Roman folds depend on even cord tension across the width. When one cord stretches or breaks, the shade stacks crooked. That is a workshop repair — not a part we sell.
If the fabric is sun-damaged, stained through or permanently creased, there is no repair at any price and the shade is finished. If the fabric is sound, repair the mechanism.
What does it cost?
On a motorized Vignette, the likely answer is a $17.95–$24.95 part, or about $34.95 if you have a pre-2010 shade needing the wand and the cable together. A restring or a motor is a different order of money entirely.
What Hunter Douglas blind repair costs covers the full ladder and the warranty limits — five years, original owner only, through the original dealer.
