Hunter Douglas Palm Beach Battery Wand Replacement
Motorized Palm Beach Polysatin shutters take the 12V battery wand, part 7520069000, which holds eight AA batteries. To confirm, slide the old wand out and count the cells: eight AA means this is your part, and anything else means stop and send us a photo before you order.
Hunter Douglas lists one wand for Palm Beach shutters, with no split by year and no second option. BatteryWands is an independent retailer, not affiliated with Hunter Douglas; we stock this wand new and ship it free by UPS Ground.
How to tell by counting the cells
Labels wear off. The cell count does not.
- Eight AA batteries in a double-barrel tube → the 12V wand, part 7520069000. Hunter Douglas describes the Palm Beach wand as an "8AA 12V Double Barrel" with enhanced end caps.
- Twelve AA batteries → not what Hunter Douglas documents for Palm Beach. Email a photo of the wand and the label to support@batterywands.com before buying anything.
- No loose batteries, a sealed body and a charging socket → a rechargeable wand, which is a different part. See the rechargeable battery wand page.
The 12V and 18V wands are not interchangeable. The motor expects its own voltage, so a twelve-cell wand will not run a shutter built for eight.
If your old wand looks a little different from the new one, that is expected. Hunter Douglas changed to enhanced end caps in May 2018 for easier battery changes, and says the newer tubes may look different but remain compatible with the same products and part numbers.
Legacy PowerView or Gen 3: does it change the wand?
No. Hunter Douglas lists the same eight-AA wand for Palm Beach without splitting it by system. If you want to know which system you have anyway, Hunter Douglas notes that Palm Beach shutters behave a little differently from shades when power is connected: a Gen 3 shutter motor blinks green, and a slow "heartbeat" pulse on the LED confirms Gen 3.
How do I swap the wand on a Palm Beach shutter?
Hunter Douglas's help center does not show where the wand mounts on a Palm Beach shutter, so use the Installation, Operation and Care Guide that came with yours for the exact spot. The battery steps are the same as on every PowerView product:
- Remove the battery wand from its mount. If a cable runs to the wand, note how it connects before you take it off.
- Load eight new AA alkaline batteries following the diagram printed on the wand. The cells sit in series, all facing the same way, so direction matters. Hunter Douglas suggests Duracell or Energizer because their alternating colored ends make mistakes easy to spot.
- Check that no two like ends touch. One reversed cell can be charged by the others and damage the batteries or the wand.
- Refit the wand and test the shutter from the remote or the app.
Use a full set of new cells from one brand, and replace a wand that has been dropped: Hunter Douglas warns the damage may not be visible. The full walkthrough is on how to replace a battery wand.
If a new wand and fresh batteries change nothing, the wand was not the problem. The six-symptom check sorts out pairing, limits and motor faults in about two minutes.
Questions people also ask
Can I use the 18V wand in a Palm Beach shutter?
No. The 18V wand holds twelve AA cells and Hunter Douglas documents only the eight-AA 12V wand for Palm Beach. Order part 7520069000, and count the cells in the old wand first.
What is part 7520067000?
The same 12V wand sold with batteries already in it. Hunter Douglas lists 7520069000 as empty and 7520067000 as pre-loaded. Ours is the empty 7520069000, so you add eight AA cells yourself.
How long do the batteries last in a motorized Palm Beach shutter?
Hunter Douglas puts typical life at about one year on AA alkaline batteries, and less on larger or busier windows. Replace them when the shutter slows down, the red LED blinks eight times at the end of a move, or the PowerView app shows a red battery icon. A high-pitched squeal just before it stops is another low-voltage sign.
My old wand has white crust inside. Is that covered?
Ask Hunter Douglas or your dealer first. Its Legacy PowerView guide says it provides a new wand free of charge when a wand has corroded, and its Gen 3 guide says you may be eligible for a free replacement. If you bought the house or are outside that cover, a new wand is $17.95 here.
Can I have my manual Palm Beach shutters motorized?
Hunter Douglas lists Palm Beach Polysatin shutters among the lines it does not convert from one operating system to another. Ask your dealer what is possible for your windows.
Other lines are on the compatibility list, and voltages for every Hunter Douglas battery are on battery specifications.
