Hunter Douglas Battery Specifications

Most Hunter Douglas motorized shades run on one of two AA battery wands: the 18V wand holds 12 AA batteries (part 7520068000) and the 12V wand holds 8 AA batteries (part 7520069000). Everything else in the family, from the remote to the rechargeable wand, is listed below with its voltage, battery type and part number, so you can match what is in your hand.

The voltage is simply the cells added up: twelve 1.5V cells make 18V and eight make 12V. That is also why the two wands are not interchangeable. The motor expects its own voltage, so the wrong wand will not run the shade. Count the batteries in your old wand: twelve means 7520068000, eight means 7520069000.

Hunter Douglas does not publish a voltage or capacity for the rechargeable wand in its help center. Dealer listings give 14.8V nominal and 2.2Ah; the rechargeable battery wand page explains why that still counts as an 18V-class part. To work out which pack is in your headrail, see which Hunter Douglas battery pack you have; charging the rechargeable wand is covered on Hunter Douglas charging cable. The skylight retrofit, with every part Hunter Douglas lists for it, is on Duette Skylight battery wand replacement.

Which batteries does Hunter Douglas specify?

Alkaline AA for most shades, and Hunter Douglas names Duracell or Energizer. The one exception it lists is Duette and Applause with SkyLift, which should use lithium AA. It says lithium gives no major benefit elsewhere because these shades are a low-drain load. It does not recommend off-the-shelf rechargeable AA cells: most charge to 1.2V instead of 1.5V and hold 50 to 60 percent of an alkaline cell's capacity. More on that in lithium or alkaline.

How long do Hunter Douglas batteries last?

About a year on an average 50 x 50 inch shade, by Hunter Douglas's own figure, and as little as three months on large shades run often. The signs that a set is running down:

The batteries guide covers why one weak cell drags the whole string down.

Questions people also ask

Is the 12V wand a weaker version of the 18V wand?

No. It is a different part for a headrail built for eight cells. Hunter Douglas fits it to eight-cell Duette, Applause, Silhouette and Vignette shades, to Parkland and EverWood blinds from May 2018, and to Palm Beach shutters. Putting an 18V wand on a 12V headrail, or the reverse, will not run the shade.

What batteries does a Hunter Douglas remote take?

PowerView remotes and the Scene Controller take two CR2032 coin cells. The older PowerRise remotes take two AAA batteries. Hunter Douglas expects about a year from either set.

Where are the specifications printed on the wand?

On the label on the tube. The current wands read, for example, "7520068000, BATTERY WAND 18V.EMPTY". If the label has worn off, the battery count tells you the same thing. The part numbers page shows both labels and the older numbers you may find.

Does a new wand come with batteries?

Ours do not. They ship empty, which is how the 7520068000 and 7520069000 part numbers are supplied. Hunter Douglas's pre-loaded versions carry different numbers (7520066000 and 7520067000) but are the same wands.
