Hunter Douglas Battery Pack: Which One Do You Have?

On most Hunter Douglas motorized shades the battery pack is the AA battery wand that clips into or behind the headrail: 12 AA batteries for the 18V wand (part 7520068000) or 8 AA for the 12V version, which Hunter Douglas itself lists as the "12V Battery Pack", part 7520069000. If yours has no batteries you can remove and a small charging socket instead, it is a lithium-ion rechargeable pack, which is a different part.

"Battery pack", "battery wand" and "battery tube" are used for the same thing in Hunter Douglas's own documents, which is why this gets confusing. BatteryWands is an independent retailer, not affiliated with Hunter Douglas; we stock the two AA packs.

How do I tell which battery pack I have?

Raise the shade, find the pack in or behind the headrail, and match it to this table.

What you see What it is Replacement
A tube holding 12 loose AA batteries 18V battery wand Part 7520068000
A tube holding 8 loose AA batteries 12V battery pack Part 7520069000 (Pirouette 18 to 23 inches wide takes 7520073000 instead)
A sealed tube, no removable batteries, a small round charging socket Rechargeable lithium-ion wand Hunter Douglas retrofit kits 1020151 to 1020155, from a dealer
No pack at all, and a charging port on the right side of the shade Built-in (internal) rechargeable battery Nothing to replace; charge it with the Hunter Douglas Single Charger
A box mounted away from the headrail on its own bracket, with a cable to the shade Satellite battery pack See below

If you can count individual AA batteries, you have one of the two AA packs. Twelve or eight is the whole test. Voltages and battery types for every pack are on Hunter Douglas battery specifications.

What is a satellite battery pack?

A satellite pack is a battery pack mounted away from the headrail and wired to the motor. Hunter Douglas has discontinued both of the original styles and documents a replacement for each:

What is the Hunter Douglas lithium-ion battery pack?

That is the rechargeable battery wand, which Hunter Douglas launched for PowerView on July 7, 2020. It is sold as a satellite-mount retrofit kit with no cable (1020151) or with a 15 inch, 4 ft, 10 ft or 20 ft extension cable (1020152 to 1020155). A charger is not included by default: Hunter Douglas sells a Single Charger (about two hours for one wand) and a Dual Charging Station (about three hours for two), and says to use Hunter Douglas chargers only.

We do not sell rechargeable packs or chargers. Prices and part numbers are on the rechargeable battery wand page, and the two chargers are compared on is there a charger for my wand?. How the charging cable connects, and which cables only carry power, is on the Hunter Douglas charging cable page.

What about shades with a built-in rechargeable battery?

Some PowerView Gen 3 shades have the battery inside the shade. There is no pack to slide out. You charge them through a port on the right side of the shade, using the Single Charger with a charging adapter: a swivel adapter on shades built after December 3, 2024, and a magnetic adapter on shades built before that. Hunter Douglas says either adapter works with the same Single Charger.

Questions people also ask

Is a battery pack the same as a battery wand?

For AA shades, yes. Hunter Douglas calls 7520069000 the "12V Battery Pack" in one place and a battery wand in another. What matters is the battery count, not the name on the listing.

Can I swap my AA battery pack for a rechargeable one?

Hunter Douglas sells rechargeable retrofit kits, but whether your shade qualifies is a question for a Hunter Douglas dealer. We cannot confirm it from a photo, and we do not sell the kits.

Does a replacement battery pack come with batteries?

Ours ship empty, and you will need 12 or 8 matching AA alkaline cells. Hunter Douglas also lists pre-loaded versions (7520066000 and 7520067000), which are the same packs with batteries in.

My pack is corroded. Do I need more than a new pack?

Usually just the pack. If the old sealed tube on an older shade has corroded through, the battery wand replacement guide explains when the conversion kit is the better fix. Ask Hunter Douglas or your dealer before you buy anything: its Legacy PowerView guide says it provides a new wand free of charge when a wand has corroded, and its Gen 3 guide says you may be eligible for a free replacement.
