Hunter Douglas Charging Cable: Which One and How to Charge

The Hunter Douglas charging cable is part of the Single Charger: it runs from the wall charger to the charging port on a rechargeable battery wand, or, with a swivel or magnetic charging adapter, to a shade with a built-in rechargeable battery. If your shade runs on AA batteries there is no charging cable for it, and the short cable inside the headrail is a power cable, not a charger.

BatteryWands is an independent retailer, not affiliated with Hunter Douglas. We do not sell chargers or charging cables. Prices and part numbers for the rechargeable wand itself are on the rechargeable battery wand page.

One warning from Hunter Douglas worth repeating: do not plug the charging cable into the battery mount's power socket. The charging port is on the wand itself.

Does my shade use a charging cable at all?

The full side-by-side is on is there a charger for my wand?. If you are not sure what kind of pack is in the headrail, which battery pack you have walks through every type, and battery specifications lists their voltages.

How do I charge a Hunter Douglas rechargeable wand?

Single Charger. Plug the wall charger into an outlet and fit the plug adapter. Connect the female end of the charging cable to the charger and the male end to the wand's charging port. The light is red while charging and turns green when done, typically in about two hours. You can charge the wand in place, or take it out first.

Dual Charging Station. Take the wand out: grip the end furthest from the power socket and pull it out of the mount, leaving the mount on the shade. Push the nose of the wand into the station's slot until it clicks. Red means charging; green means full, which can take up to three hours. To refit, line up the arrow on the wand with the arrow on the mount and push until it clicks.

How do I charge a shade with a built-in battery?

The charging port is on the right side of the shade: between the fabric and the bracket on an inside mount, or facing the room on an outside mount. Connect the charging cable to the adapter, use an extension pole if you need the reach, and attach the adapter to the port. Charging starts on its own; red means charging and green means done. A small static discharge when the magnetic adapter connects is normal, according to Hunter Douglas.

How often will I need the charging cable?

About once a year. Hunter Douglas's example is a shade about 48 by 60 inches, run twice a day, needing a charge roughly every twelve months. Bigger shades and busier schedules need it sooner.

Questions people also ask

Can I use a phone charger or another USB cable?

Hunter Douglas says to use only Hunter Douglas charging accessories, and warns that third-party chargers may damage the battery.

Is the PowerRise power cable a charging cable?

No. The 13 inch power cable carries power from the battery wand to the motor on PowerRise headrails. Nothing charges through it. It is the right part only when a shade with a good AA wand is still dead.

My rechargeable shade lost its programming. Is the cable at fault?

Charge it fully, reconnect it to the shade and test again; those are Hunter Douglas's own steps. If the light never turns red on a known-good outlet, suspect the charger or cable.

Where do I buy a replacement charging cable?

From a Hunter Douglas dealer. We do not stock chargers, cables or adapters. If you have an AA wand instead, you need the 18V wand (12 AA, part 7520068000) or the 12V wand (8 AA, part 7520069000), $17.95 each with free UPS Ground shipping.
