Hunter Douglas PowerRise Motor: Replace It or Fix the Power?
Hunter Douglas's guide to PowerRise replacement parts does not list a replacement motor, and it says PowerRise remotes, bridges and gateways are no longer available. What can still be replaced is the power side: the battery wand and the power cable, which are worth ruling out before you decide the motor has failed.
BatteryWands is an independent retailer, not affiliated with Hunter Douglas. We sell the wands and the power cable, not motors, so this page is about telling the two apart.
What is PowerRise?
PowerRise is Hunter Douglas's older motorized system, before PowerView. PowerRise 1.0 ran from 2003 to April 2010. PowerRise 2.0 with Platinum Technology was installed between 2012 and 2015. PowerRise remotes take two AAA batteries, where PowerView remotes take two CR2032 coin cells. If you are not sure which system you have, PowerRise or PowerView? sorts it out in a minute.
Is it the motor or the power?
Use the manual button first. Hunter Douglas puts it on the left or right side of the headrail, underneath it, or on the satellite eye. Press it once: the shade should move. Press again while it moves to stop it.
- Nothing happens. Hunter Douglas's first step is new batteries in the battery wand or satellite pack, then checking the battery position or DC connection. A shade with no power and a silent motor points at the wand or the cable.
- It hums, clicks or grinds but does not move. Power is reaching the motor. A new wand will not help.
- It moves from the button but not from the remote. The motor and power are fine. The remote or its batteries are the problem.
The six-symptom check covers the same split in more detail.

Which battery wand does a PowerRise shade take?
It depends on the shade line and the year, and Hunter Douglas documents each one. Duette and Applause from before May 2010 used an eight-cell 12V tube; Vignette from before May 2010 converts to the 12 AA 18V wand plus power cable 2920247000; Silhouette and Nantucket from before May 2010 convert with KIT9112. The PowerRise 1.0 page has the full table. On a shade where the old wand has loose batteries, count them: twelve means the 18V wand, eight means the 12V.
Questions people also ask
Can I run a PowerRise shade without the remote?
Yes, from the manual button on the headrail or satellite eye, as above. It raises, lowers and stops the shade. Since replacement PowerRise remotes are no longer available, that button is worth knowing about.
Can I control PowerRise shades from the PowerView app?
No. Hunter Douglas says PowerRise shades cannot be converted to another operating system such as PowerView. Moving to PowerView means ordering a new shade through a dealer.
How do I know the power cable is the problem?
When a wand you have good reason to trust, with fresh batteries, still leaves the shade silent. The cable has a two-pin plug at the motor end and a barrel plug at the wand end; check both are seated before buying anything.
Is a PowerRise shade worth repairing?
If the fabric is sound and the fault is the power, yes: a wand or cable is $17.95. If the motor itself has failed, with no replacement motor listed, it is a conversation with a dealer about a new shade. What Hunter Douglas repairs cost covers both.
