Which wand do I need for a Silhouette?
Either one — count the batteries. Hunter Douglas documents Silhouettes made after May 2010 as taking either wand. Shades built before May 2010 are a separate case covered below.
- Twelve batteries means the 18V wand, part 7520068000
- Eight batteries means the 12V wand, part 7520069000
Both are current production, both carry Hunter Douglas's enhanced end caps (the May 2018 design that makes battery changes easier), and both supersede the earlier wands on this line. They are not interchangeable with each other.
How is a Silhouette built?
Silhouette suspends fabric vanes between two sheer facings, so the vanes tilt to aim daylight rather than simply blocking it. The motor does two jobs: it raises the shade and it rotates the vanes.
Where does the wand sit in a Silhouette?
The wand mounts inside the headrail above the roller. The sheer facing is delicate — support the shade rather than letting it hang while you work.
Is there anything fragile on a Silhouette?
The sheer facing marks easily and does not recover. Work with the shade fully raised so the facing is rolled away, and keep tools off it entirely.
How do I know the wand has gone on a Silhouette?
Because the motor does two jobs, a dying wand on a Silhouette usually shows first as vanes that will not hold their tilt, days or weeks before the shade stops lifting at all. That is the early warning worth acting on.
Where do people go wrong ordering for a Silhouette?
Replacing the wand the moment the vanes stop holding their tilt. That is usually right on a Silhouette, but check whether the shade still lifts first, so you know which failure you are looking at.
Does a Silhouette need the conversion kit or the cable?
Only if the old wand turns out to hold eight cells. The conversion kit and the 13 inch power cable belong to an eight-cell headrail. Twelve cells in a Silhouette Window Shading means you are on the newer system and want the wand on its own.
